Memories of Gerald
I remember Gerry well from our days together as explorer scouts in St. Louis. He was a great guy and lots of fun. I will recount an incident that sticks in my memory. It was the annual Boy Scout festival at the St. Louis Arena. All the Boy Scout troops were there to entertain a crowd of thousands. The theme was the history of Missouri. Our troop was in a reinactment of the famous race between the river boats the Nachez and the Robert E. Lee. We built a large replica of the Nachez and another troop built the Robert E. Lee. Our explorer post was inside the Nachez pushing. The Robert E. Lee was suuposed to win the race but we decided for fun that we would push really hard and win. Well Gerry at that time wanted to become a professional scout and he dragged his feet on the ground as hard as he could to slow us down while saying "My career is at stack." Thanks for the memories Gerry. We'll miss you.
I have fond memories of Carol and Gerry from our days in St. Louis in the 50s. Carol and I were at UCity together. She was always so friendly, loving and warm. I met Gerry in 1955 when I hooked up with Stan. We connected again at the Explorer Post reunion in the late 80s and we were in touch after that, sharing family news, reading Gerry's blog. Gerry's intellect and enthusiasm were much admired. He was a fun guy and most recently we were Facebook "friends" It's hard to say good-bye.
Gerry was a great mentor and friend. He contributed much to the development world. We'll miss him.
